Reading about The Simple View of Reading (SVR) was new to me. While earning my Master's Degree in education within the last ten years, this was never discussed in my courses even when I questioned how students acquired the ability to read. I would have loved to have heard about this earlier in my teaching career. I agree with the SVR, and want to learn more about implementing it with my students, who are struggling readers. At the same time, I also feel that intuitively; I have been addressing my students' needs individually, trying to support what they need rather than a one size fits all intervention. I admit, I have defaulted to providing decoding support to most students, and I am sure that I have missed supporting students with language comprehension skills along the way. One thing that I found interesting in the article and in the video is that no frame of reference was given on where the numbers to measure decoding and language comprehension are derived. Show

Each multiple-choice question has four answer choices. Read each question and its answer choices carefully and choose the ONE best answer. During the test you should try to answer all questions. Even if you are unsure of an answer, it is better to guess than not to answer a question at all. You will NOT be penalized for choosing an incorrect response. Objective 0001 |
