Which are the high intensity statins?

As a result, the 2013 American College of Cardiology (ACA) or American Heart Association (AHA) guidelines on the treatment of blood cholesterol advises high-intensity statins for individuals with atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease, such as atorvastatin 40 or 80 mg and rosuvastatin 20 or 40 mg [13].

Is rosuvastatin a high intensity statin?

Atorvastatin doses of 40 or 80 mg and rosuvastatin doses of 20 or 40mg are defined as high intensity statin therapies (decrease LDL cholesterol by 50% or more).

Is lovastatin a high intensity statin?

Lovastatin at a dose of 40 - 80 mg per day is considered a moderate-intensity statin as it normally reduces LDL-C by 30% to 50%.

When is high intensity statin indicated?

High-intensity statins are recommended for 2 categories of pa- tients: those with ASCVD (secondary prevention) and high-risk patients without clinical ASCVD. Most patients with ASCVD are candidates for high-intensity statins, with a goal for low-density li- poprotein cholesterol reduction of 50% or greater.
