What is it?: A Moisturising sunblock – for everyday use. Contains Q10 as an antioxidant to help reduce the chance of fine lines, wrinkles and pigmentation (please note that SPFs are technically anti-ageing since they reduce the chance of UVA rays infiltrating the skin – so added Q10 is nice but I’m not too happy with the fact that it means they can write ‘anti-age’ as if all other sunblocks aren’t now anti-ageing. This is supposed to have a light and smooth feeling which I’m not really convinced by. But this does contain a broad spectrum of UVA/UVB protection and of course I love that it is SPF 50

Good for: Mature and Dry skin – with the addition of coq10 – this antioxidant can help with further wrinkle development and pigmentation.

Stings the eyes?: I find that if I sweat and this gets into my eyes – yes it stings. But applying this around my eyes is ok, it’s only if I accidentally rub my eye or as said before, I sweat and this seeps into my eyes that yes it stings.

Packaging: Plastic Tube Packaging with a flip-cap top – easy to dispense and control product.

Directions: ”Apply to your face and neck. Rub in thoroughly and let the cream dry. Reapply to ensure adequate coverage and no missed areas before going outside. Even when protected avoid over-exposure to the sun.” (More advice and warnings on the website)

How I use it: I use this as my in-house SPF – I apply this in one layer and then let it dry, then apply another layer on top.

Key Ingredients: Q10 (an antioxidant – helps neutralise free radicals and therefore prevent collagen degredation AND Nivea also claim – pigment production in the skin. This of course also contains UVA and UVB filters – a broad spectrum of protection. These are: Uvinul T 150 (UVB), Tinosorb S (UVA / UVB), Octyl Salicylate (UVB), Avobenzone (UVA), Homosalate (UVB) AND Ensulizole (UVB)

White cast?: No!

Texture: Now this is an SPF that I NOTICE on my skin – that is its level of thickness. This is close to or on par with the Purito Unscented SPF (Review here) in terms of thickness. Yes this does rub in and settle down, but I never feel like this fully absorbs into the skin, it just sits there.

There is no white cast so I am happy about that, but if I itch or rub my skin, this product balls up, and working out in this sunblock doesn’t have the best feeling i.e. i don’t feel like my skin can breathe.

Initially I was worried when applying this, that it would be a white-cast inducing, heavy cream! Also I am hit with the smell of sunblock – that classic Western Sunblock smell. I was worried this would linger…

Rubbing this in, the smell gets a bit stronger INITIALLY, but the more rubbing in I do – the less the smell is prominent. This is spreading as you can see.

At first I thought oh no – is this going to remain streaky and with white cast? It would remain like this IF I didn’t continue to rub in/pat down. I have to rub and pat this in until the streaks disappear otherwise they would stay there. The smell is also getting less and less potent.

After rubbing and patting this down fully, the product has now stuck like glue onto my skin. I feel a layer of it sticking to my skin (not very comfortable for on the face, but at least it has ‘stuck’ or glued onto my face and wont budge too much (unless I rub or itch my face). The smell is now very subtle. The formula is definitely moisturising, but I prefer a matte formula.

Fragrance?: Yes! As with the Anti-Shine version, this contains both fragrance and essential oils 😦 Limonene, Linalool, Alpha-isomethyl ionone, Gernaiol, Citronellol, Coumarin, Parfum. The one good thing I can say is that after the product has dried down/rubbed in, the smell isn’t very strong anymore.

Good Under Makeup?: It balls up on me if I move this product around too much after it’s dried down.

How long have I been using this?: About one week of DAILY use (since I’ve been applying this every morning)

The Effect?: Sun-protected skin

What I like:

• Although there is fragrance – the smell pretty much disappears after rubbing in (I’m not overloaded with fragrance for the whole day)
• No White Cast
• No irritation / itching
• Also I trust Nivea with their broad spectrum protection – so I know that I can trust that they have put good filters in there.
• SPF50

What I don’t like:

• Fragrance
• Essential Oils
• Quite thick
• Not too comfortable on the skin
• Balls up if I rub/itch my face
• Not sticky – a bit greasy if you prefer matte formulas.
• This has to be rubbed in adequately to get rid of that ‘streaky’ look (see swatch images and swatch comments)

Overall Rating and Conclusion: 3/5 – Not my favourite Nivea or Western Sunblock. Definitely prefer the Anti-Shine Block over this because it is lighter, doesn’t ball up on me and doesn’t make me feel like I’m sweating. I do think however that this SPF is not aimed at my skin type and my skin needs, so that is why I’m not a fan of it. I do believe that this is aimed towards DRY skins who prefer heavier textures, maybe mature skins even.

Would I repurchase?: No. I would prefer to purchase the matte version (Review HERE)

My Skin Type: I am acne prone and have combo skin. My skin is usually tight where the cheeks and eye area is and the outer parts of my face. My T zone is oily. My skin isn’t a fan of thick/heavy formulas so I opt for lightweight formulas to prevent it from clogging up. My skin doesn’t like essential oils either and I try to avoid fragrance when I can.
