Test Center Availability, Capacity, and Closures
Schools and test centers may still have to reduce capacity and they may need to close unexpectedly. While College Board can't directly control capacity and test center availability, we're working to ensure that as many students as possible are able to test safely.
If you can't find a nearby test center with availability on your preferred test date, be sure to check other dates.
For specific information about your registration, please check the email address associated with your registration, though there may be a delay between the test center closing and the email notification.
Health and Safety Requirements
Schools and test centers make individual decisions about whether to administer the SAT. All weekend test centers must adhere to College Board requirements or local public health guidelines.
College Board Requirements
- Masks are optional during SAT administrations unless your testing location generally requires masks according to local laws.
- Students are responsible for knowing the local laws and should bring a mask just in case.
- Masks are allowed at all centers. Students and staff who opt to wear masks must be allowed to do so.
- Students must be seated at least 3 feet apart during testing.
- Do not report to the test center on test day if you are feeling sick. Students may contact Customer Service by the end of test day for a full refund. Students will not be charged a cancellation fee if they stayed home due to illness.
- Students who violate the requirements put in place by their test center or College Board should be dismissed from the test center; if this happens, their scores will be canceled, and they won't receive a refund.
Visit this site before reporting to your test center to ensure you have the latest information.
College Admissions Information
Colleges understand that not all students are able to take a college entrance exam because of test center closures and reduced capacity due to covid-19. Most colleges aren’t requiring a test score for the upcoming admissions cycle. While almost all still accept scores, most are rightfully being flexible for students who are unable to test. You should check the college's website for the most updated information on their application requirements.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is there a chance my SAT administration might be canceled due to concerns over covid-19?
All anticipated test dates are scheduled to move ahead as planned. College Board is monitoring the spread of covid-19, and we'll remain focused on the health and safety of students, educators, and their communities.
Schools and districts make the decision to administer the assessments in accordance with College Board requirements and their local health and safety guidelines. We're asking test centers to report closures to College Board as soon as possible to help ensure students are informed and to reduce stress and uncertainty ahead of test day. You’ll receive an email if your test center decides to close. We encourage you to check the test center closures page the morning of test day.
I want to transfer my weekend registration to another test center or test date. Will I be charged a fee?
Students must cancel their existing registration and reregister for their new administration by the late registration deadline for domestic students or by the standard registration deadline for international students. A cancel fee of $25 is assessed.
After the change deadline, a late cancel fee of $35 is assessed until test day. A full refund on the canceled registration will be provided. You won't be able to make changes to your registration after test day.
