1. stereotyping is assigning characteristics to an identifiable group and then automatically transfer those features to anyone we believe is a member of that group.
2. attribution errors self-serving bias and fundamental attribution error.
3. self-fulfilling prophecy is stronger at the beginning of a relationship, others hold a similar opinion, and is stronger among people with a history of low achievement. Leaders need to develop and maintain a positive, yet realistic, expectation toward all employees.
4. halo occurs when our general impression of a person, usually based on one prominent characteristic, distorts our perception of other characteristics of that person. It is most likely to occur when important information about the perceived target is missing or we are not sufficiently motivated to search for it.
5. false-consensus or the similar to me effect occurs when people overestimate the extent to which others have similar beliefs or behaviors to our own.
6. primacy effects is the tendency to rely on the first information we receive about people to quick form an opinion of them. we then select subsequent information that supports our first impression and screen out information that opposes that impression.
7. recency effects occurs when most recent information dominates our perceptions. this bias is most common when people especially those with limited experience make a decision involving complex information.
